Society of Authors to hold Short Story Tweetathon

Authors including Neil Gaiman and Ian Rankin will collaborate with the public in a short story "Tweetathon" organised by the Society of Authors.

Authors and tweeters will collaborate on the project, which launched today (14th September) and is set to last five weeks, to write one short story a week, in 670 characters. Five first-line contributions, of varying genres, will be tweeted by writers Simon Brett, Neil Gaiman, Joanne Harris, Ian Rankin and Sarah Waters, on hashtag #soatale, with Tweeters invited to complete the next four sentences. Every hour the best lines will be selected and the resulting short stories will be published on the SoA website.

The online event is part of the SoA's campaign for the reinstatement of short story slots cut from the BBC Radio 4 schedule, as well as being intended to celebrate the form, the society said.
