Six-figure debut to Orion
01.01.70 | Katie Allen
Orion has pre-empted a debut by Danish author Lezanne Clannachan for a "good six-figure sum".
Orion's Kate Mills acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada in The Other Hlaf of the Truth, plus a second title, from Rowan Lawton at Lawton Furniss.
The novel follows a young woman coming to terms with a dark episode from her youth, involving a missing boy and a brutal murder. The publisher desribed it as a "haunting story, with a deep sense of menace running throughout, where both friends and family are not as they seem".
Mills said: "We are delighted to be Lezanne's UK publisher and will be publishing in hardback next summer."
Clannachan is Danish and now lives in the UK.
Meanwhile, the US auction for another Orion acquisition, The Distance by Helen Giltrow, has been concluded, with Bill Thomas at Doubleday acquiring US rights in a two-book deal through Judith Murray at Greene & Heaton.
