Tinder Press has acquired a debut novel from creative writing student Sarah Leipciger.
The book, The Mountain Can Wait, was acquired in a joint world English language deal with Little, Brown in the US from Clare Alexander of Aitken Alexander Associates. Laura Tisdel of Little, Brown was the acquiring editor.
Set in the author’s native Canada, The Mountain Can Wait tells the story of Tom, a single father, who battles to find a way to save his son, Curtis, who has killed a girl in a hit-and-run accident.
Tinder Press publisher Mary-Anne Harrington said: “Sarah Leipciger succeeds in bringing the natural world in which her story unfolds to vibrant life, and in dramatising the strained and damaged relationship between father and son with deep compassion.
“This is a debut of immense assurance, beautiful and yet tough, and we at Tinder Press couldn’t be more excited about Sarah and her future as a novelist.”
Leipciger currently teaches creative writing to male prisoners in HMP Wandsworth, and her short fiction has been shortlisted for the Asham Award, the Fish Prize, and the Bridport Prize.
The Mountain Can Wait will be published in spring 2015.
