Scotland's high-profile stint as guest nation at next week's Kolkata Book Fair is in jeopardy, following a series of set-backs.
According to the Scotsman, the Scottish presence at the fair has suffered a blow, as Catherine Lockerbie, director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, has been forced to stay at home for health reasons. This follows Edinburgh's lord provost, George Grubb, pulling out of a trip to the festival after months of grumbling over the £6,000 "junket", and the Edinburgh architect hired to design the Scottish pavilion, Graeme Massie, has washed his hands of the project, complaining of "unacceptable" changes.
The event has been backed by the British Council, along with the Scottish Government, and its director, Roy Cross, insisted the Scottish link was on track, reports the newspaper.
