Serpent's Tail has acquired a "gripping" memoir by one of the drug dealers investigated in Operation Julie in 1976.
Publisher Pete Ayrton bought world rights from David Smith at Annette Green
Authors' Agency.
To Live Outside the Law tells the life story of Nigel "Leaf" Fielding who was a key player in the world's biggest LSD ring, and gives the first insider's account of the drugs bust itself.
Smith said: "The title comes from the Bob Dylan line, 'To live outside the law you must be honest', and that's one of the key messages of the book.
"Leaf and his colleagues were worlds away from the brutal violent drug gangs of today. They were idealistic hippies, trying to spread the word about what they held to be a positive, powerful drug. The story of their exploits and downfall are gripping, but Leaf's own story is no less compelling."
Ayrton called the title "a great, life-affirming book."
Serpent's Tail will publish in summer 2011.
