The David Tebbutt Trust has chosen a second recipient of the David Tebbutt scholarship, which fully funds a place on a publishing course.
Helen Hughes, currently in her final year studying English, history and creative writing at the National University of Ireland in Galway, will now undertake an MA in publishing at the UCL in September, as well as a six-week internship at Faber. Hughes was a unanimous choice of the selection panel, made up of two representatives of UCL and two from the Trust.
Set up to honour the late David Tebbutt, Faber's finance director, the scholarship is awarded each year by the trust, which is administered by Faber and the Tebbutt family. The principal aim of the trust is to further the education of those who wish to pursue a career in publishing, writing and the information industries.
Tebbutt was killed by pirates in Kenya in 2011. Last year, his widow Judith Tebbutt wrote a memoir of her time being held captive by the pirates and her subsequent release, A Long Walk Home, publisher by Faber.
