The Bookseller has begun its search for its third annual Rising Stars, a listing of the industry’s next generation of leaders and innovators.
The list, to be published in the 6th September issue of The Bookseller, will look at candidates from all areas of the trade including publishers, booksellers, agents, supply chain and publishing technology professionals and new digital entrants.
The selection committee will be headed up by The Bookseller features editor Tom Tivnan and deputy features and supplements editor Felicity Wood. Tivnan said: "As we have discovered in the last two years, there is certainly a wealth of talent to choose from in the industry. The rising stars don't necessarily have to be young; we want to recognise the people who are growing their businesses, responding to the seismic changes in the industry, the ones who are building new models or even those who have come from outside the trade because they see opportunities in books.
"In short, we're looking for the leaders of the future."
There were 35 Rising Stars in the 2012 list, most of whom continued to rise since being chosen. For example, Foyles head of marketing Miriam Robinson went on to win the 2013 Kim Scott Walwyn Prize; Juliet Mushens helped found a new UK literary division at The Agency Group; Ben Gutcher was promoted to sales director at John Murray Press; and Octavia Karavla's shop won Best Children's Independent Bookseller of the Year at the Bookseller Industry Awards.
