Waterstones’ publisher liaison manager Sarah Clarke will leave the chain to join Pan Macmillan as a sales director next month.
Clarke leaves Waterstones after 10 years at the chain to head up Pan Macmillan’s high street and wholesaler team including the rep force and “federal responsibility” for Macmillan’s Children’s Books.
She has been appointed to one of three new sales director roles Pan Macmillan created as part of the single sales division announced last month, in which key account and sales managers take responsibility for selling the publisher’s entire lists to customers.
Each new sales director will report to Pan Macmillan’s UK sales director Anna Bond. As previously announced, Elise Burns was internally promoted to become one of the sales directors responsible for supermarkets and non-fiction. A third sales director is yet to be announced.
Anna Bond, Pan Macmillan UK sales director, said: "I am delighted that Sarah will be joining our team. Her understanding of the high street and all of the challenges that the chains and independents are facing, coupled with her love of children’s books, will help her to lead her team to strengthen our relationships with our retailers and consumers.”
Clarke said that her new role was a “tremendous opportunity” at a time of pivotal change on the high street.
“I am looking forward to working with my new team and accounts to take our joint businesses forward,” she said.
Clarke will begin her role on 26th March.
