Saqi acquires Atta's poetry

Saqi imprint The Westbourne Press has acquired a poetry collection by writer and poet Dean Atta.

Publisher Lynn Gaspard bought world English rights directly from the poet to the collection, I Am Nobody's Nigger, with plans to publish on 1st March 2013.

Gaspard said: "We are thrilled to be publishing Dean Atta's poetry collection next year. He is a vibrant and provocative voice in the world of poetry and his poems deserve to reach as wide an audience as possible.

"The collection will include hard-hitting poems about life in London and more intimate poems about love and sexuality. Dean is a brave writer and I am very proud to be his publisher."

Atta's poem, "I Am Nobody's Nigger", was inspired by the conviction for Stephen Lawrence's murder this year, and his performance of it has had 40,000 downloads on YouTube to date, according to the publisher. He won the London Poetry Award in 2012.
