Helen Garnons-Williams at Bloomsbury has acquired a debut, Moonlight in Odessa by Jane Skeslien Charles, described as "a tragi-comic look at the flourishing market for Russian email-order brides".
Garnons-Williams pre-empted world English rights from Laura Longrigg at MBA.
Moonlight in Odessa tells the story of Daria, a resourceful young Ukrainian woman struggling to make a life for herself and the publisher calls it "original and sparkling" and rights have been sold in Germany, Italy, Holland, Brazil, Sweden and Iceland.
Bloomsbury USA will publish first, bringing the book out in autumn 2009, with Bloomsbury UK following in spring 2010.
