Actress Juliet Stevenson is to announce and narrate this year’s winning story at the RA & Pin Drop Short Story Award on 24th June.
In contention for the 2016 award are Barney Walsh's "Under the Waves", Catherine McNamara's "Pia Tortora", Cathy Thomas's " Fish and Chips Season", Claire Fuller's "A Quiet Tidy Man", Kirstin Zhang's "Mountain Strawberries" and Melanie Whipman's "Silent as Storks".
All stories are currently unpublished.
The judging panel for the Audible-sponsored short story award includes Pin Drop co-founders Elizabeth Day and Simon Oldfield, and the Royal Academy's Artistic director, Tim Marlow.
The RA & Pin Drop Short Story Award offers a platform for emerging and established writers to showcase their short fiction, with this special literature award.
Stevenson will read against the "stunning" backdrop of the Reynolds Room at the Royal Academy, the site of the first presentation of Darwin's evolutionary theories that underpinned The Origin of the Species.
Pin Drop presents a programme of the "best" in short form fiction performed by leading authors and actors including Stephen Fry, William Boyd, Lionel Shriver, Russell Tovey and Richard Dawkins, entertaining audiences in London, New York and LA against the backdrop of iconic venues including the Royal Academy of Arts, BAFTA and Soho House.
