John Roberts, DK's managing director of publishing operations, is retiring from the publisher on 15th April.
He spent 10 years with DK and also had responsibility for DK Verlag. Roberts said he planned to return to university.
Peter Field, DK c.e.o., said: "John has served DK with distinction and in key roles over the years. John's knowledge of the business, our people and its component parts is unrivalled and he brought to DK a wealth of experience from previous senior roles at other leading non-fiction publishers and for many years with BCA.
"He will be leaving DK after we have delivered a record performance and the company thanks him hugely for his commitment and his contribution to our undoubted future success."
Roberts said: "It's been a joy and a great privilege to work for DK. I'll miss enormously my colleagues and DK's tremendous creative buzz but it is time for me to move on and start something new before it is too late."
