Roberts moves to Bloomsbury from Virago
02.09.11 | Charlotte Williams
French author Michele Roberts has moved to Bloomsbury from Virago for her next book, Ignorance.
Alexandra Pringle acquired world English rights in a one-book deal through Ayesha Karim at Aitken Alexander. Bloomsbury will publish simultaneously in the US and the UK on 10th May 2012.
Pringle said she was "completely thrilled" and described the as yet untitled novel as "very profound and moving", set in a small provincial town in France during the Second World War. The story follows Jeanne Nerin and Marie-Angele Baudry as they grow up side-by-side in a Catholic village, and the war forces them to learn about guilt, faith, desire and judgment.
Pringle added: "It's got one of her strongest stories," likening it to Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky.
