John Murray Press has announced two new appointments to the editorial team, Mark Richards and Jamie Joseph.
Mark Richards, currently commissioning editor at Fourth Estate, will join John Murray on 1st October as editorial director. Richards has spent the last six years at Fourth Estate, editing authors such as Desmond Elliot Prize-winner Anjali Joseph and Man Booker Prize-longlisted Sam Thompson. He also signed the Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels, while building a list of non-fiction authors. At John Murray, Richards will report to m.d. Nick Davies.
Jamie Joseph is also joining the company, becoming senior commissioning editor at John Murray Press' Consumer Learning department. Joseph takes on the role from 2nd September, reporting to publisher Sam Richardson, and will be commissioning Teach Yourself, All That Matters books and standalone titles across academic, creative writing and self-development. Joseph is also joining from HarperCollins, where he was senior commissioning editor at the publisher. He replaces Victoria Roddam, who is leaving Hodder after seven years. She will continue to commission Teach Yourself titles as a freelance editor.
Davies said: "I'm delighted to welcome Mark and Jamie to John Murray Press. They are two of the brightest, most creative young editors in British publishing. Both have a track record of making smart commissioning decisions, editing with care and intelligence, and then publishing with genuine flair. I have no doubt that they will make a quick but lasting impact on this exciting new division."
