Richard III title to Bloomsbury
05.02.13 | Katie Allen
Bloomsbury has acquired a title about Richard III, the king whose skeleton was discovered under a car park in Leicester.
Robin Baird-Smith, publisher, acquired world rights in Richard III: A Ruler and His Reputation from Peter Straus of Rogers Coleridge and White.
The title by David Horspool, lined up for October 2014, will explore the recent discovery and the king's enduring reputation. Archaeologists this week confirmed that a skeleton found beneath a car park in Leicester was indeed that of the last Plantagenet king, who was killed in battle in 1485.
Baird-Smith said: "It is a long time since there has been such a perfect match of author and subject."
Horspool is history editor at the Times Literary Supplement and the author of two previous titles: Why Alfred Burned the Cakes (Profile) and The English Rebel (Penguin).
