Random House Children's Books has clinched four nominations out of the six titles shortlisted for the 2009 YoungMinds Book Award.
The £2,000 prize is awarded to a book for readers of 12+, which helps young people to cope with the challenges of growing up. Titles in the shortlist covers issues including eating disorders, divorce and death.
Sarah Brennan, chief executive of YoungMinds said: "Books can play a vital role in promoting the mental and emotional well being of young people. They help to break the isolation experienced by young people and demonstrate that their feelings and problems are not unique."
A panel of judges will choose the winner, who will be awarded at a gala ceremony at the Unicorn Theatre, London, on 11th November, following the YoungMinds Annual Lecture. Judges include Virginia Ironside, Independent columnist and author of The Wise Mouse (Youngminds); Anthony McGowan, author of The Knife that Killed Me (Definitions); Sue Shaper, chair of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals’ School Libraries Group; plus three young people.
