RH US staff get $5,000 Fifty Shades bonus
07.12.12 | Bookseller Staff
Random House US employees will all be receiving a $5,000 bonus this year due to the success of Fifty Shades of Grey, according to a New York Times report which states that RH US spokesperson Stuart Applebaum has confirmed the story.
An announcement was reportedly made at the company's corporate Christmas party last night.
C.e.o. Markus Dohle announced that all employees, from editors to distribution workers, will all receive the bonus to celebrate a profitable 12 months, as long as they have worked at the company for a full year. According to the New York Times report, cheering at the news went on for minutes.
The bonus is understood to be related to the success of the Fifty Shades of Grey series, as well as other bestsellers at the US division, including Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and John Grisham's The Racketeer.
When asked by The Bookseller if Random House employees in the UK would also be receiving a similar bonus, a Random House Group spokesman said: "Random House in the UK has a long history of sharing its success with its employees. Uniquely for the Group, and because of our consistently successful performance against stretching internal targets, we have been able to do this through our profit share scheme in nine out of the last 10 years.
"We also look for additional creative ways to thank our staff on an ongoing basis and, for example, last year we gave everyone in UK publishing a free iPad to keep. Given the success of this year, there’s no doubt we will be making sure staff once again enjoy a generous profit share when the time comes."
