Rebellion is launching a new imprint for children and YA readers, Ravenstone, with its first title, Lupus Rex, written by John Carter Cash, son of music legends June Carter and Johnny Cash.
The imprint will publish four books a year, with Carter Cash's title to be published in June 2013 and intended for readers aged 8-12. The publisher described it as "a tale of nature...full of strong characters and sets the bar very high for an emerging literary talent". The next book will be The Devil's Apprentice by Amanda Hemmingway, described by the imprint's editor-in-chief Jonathan Oliver as "delightful and warm".
Ravenstone's books will all be published in hardback, paperback and e-book formats in the US and the UK, and will be distributed by Simon & Schuster.
Oliver added: "The Young Adult market is a vibrant and exciting melting pot of genres and ideas and I'm delighted to lead us into this territory with our new imprint."
He said: "We are always looking at new opportunities, and we decided to go for a whole new imprint-it is a case of feeling our way and seeing what is out there-we are looking for astonishing and original works."
Oliver said the imprint will not be following the fantasy and sci-fi specialisms of Rebellion and Solaris, but looking for any "unusual and commercial" stories. He said: "We will be looking at all our options, we probably won't go as young as picture books, but we don't want to limit our ranges-we are interesting in looking at more unusual stories that bring something new to the table. We don't want to just feed the market what it has already."
