Century and Arrow publisher Kate Elton is joining HarperCollins to run its fiction team with publisher Lynne Drew choosing to relinquish management responsibilities and concentrating on her authors.
Elton will join in August, reporting to Belinda Budge, publisher for HarperCollins. Among the fiction authors Elton has previously published are Karin Slaughter, Katie Fforde and Lisa Jewell.
Elton said: "I am very excited about the scope of my new role, overseeing commercial fiction, crime and Voyager, as well as the literary estates of Tolkien, Christie and C S Lewis.
"I have loved my 15 years at Random House and it has been both a privilege and a pleasure to work with Cornerstone's wonderful authors and brilliant publishing team, but the time feels right now for a new challenge."
Budge said: "Lynne has taken the Fiction Division to another level over the last 18 months. I am delighted that Kate is joining us to build on that work and to bring her creative energy to the list."
Drew said: "For work/life balance reasons, I have decided to step down as publisher and am delighted that Kate is joining us. She is the perfect person to lead HarperFiction in this demanding market and rapidly changing world. I will continue to publish my key authors, finding more ways to take them forward as brands year round and digitally, and will be very much part of the team, building for the future."
