Quadrille has signed up Gill Meller, head chef at River Cottage, to publish his first solo "breakout" book, Gather.
Publishing director Sarah Lavelle acquired world rights from Antony Topping at Greene & Heaton, for publication on 22nd September, priced £25.
Meller has been a part of the River Cottage team for 11 years, working closely with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. He regularly appears on the Channel 4 series and has contributed to many of the River Cottage books, as well as authoring The River Cottage Handbook: Pigs and Pork (Bloomsbury Publishing) in 2015.
Gather will be a celebration of seasonal British food, with each chapter focusing on ingredients from different environments, from moorland to garden, farm, field, seashore and orchard. Through 120 original recipes, Gill's focus is said to be on simple cooking inspired by the changing landscapes in which he lives and works.
Publication will be supported by a "major" national publicity and marketing campaign.
Lavelle said: “It’s so rare to find an author whose writing and recipes make for the perfect package. The flavours, the thought and the love that Gill puts into his cooking will redefine how many of us eat and cook at home. Paired with the most glorious photography from Andrew Montgomery, Gather is the very definition of a classic cookbook, one that I know people will enjoy and use for many years to come.”
Meller added: "Gather is a collection of simple and simple delicious, seasonal recipes which I feel reflect the incredibly diverse output of the productive and beautiful landscapes that surround me through a culinary year".
