Simon & Schuster UK has acquired two debut children's novels written by publishers. The Secret Ministry of Frost is written by HarperCollins children's book editor Nick Lake. The deal, for UK and Commonwealth rights including Canada, was negotiated by S&S editorial director Venetia Gosling with agent Caradoc King from A P Watt.
The book is described as a "fast paced adventure" about Light, a half Inuit albino girl, who is trying to find her missing father in the Arctic. It will be published as a paperback in early 2009.
Thirteen Treasures, by Oxford University Press editorial assistant Michelle Harrison, was acquired by S&S publishing director Ingrid Selberg from agent Julia Churchill at Darley Andersen. The deal, which was for UK, Commonwealth rights including Canada and Europe, will see the book published in paperback in March 2009.
The publisher described Thirteen Treasures as a "gripping fantasy adventure" about a missing girl. Selberg said: "These are two hugely confident and impressive débuts from two highly talent young authors with exciting writing careers ahead of them.”
