Promotion for Penguin’s Rickett
19.12.12 | Joshua Farrington
Joel Rickett has been promoted to the role of publisher of Penguin imprints Viking and Portfolio Penguin.
The editor, who was responsible for Clare Balding’s bestselling memoir My Animals and Other Family, was described as having a “a terrific year in 2012” by Viking publishing director Venetia Butterfield.
She said: “His stand-out book has been Clare Balding’s My Animals and Other Family which he published and edited with great attention to detail. It has been a bestseller and Joel was declared by Clare, as she accepted Autobiography of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards, to be the ‘most gentle of editors'.”
She added: “2012 was also a great year of acquisition for Joel including signing Olympic stars the Brownlee brothers for publication next June. Joel is a tireless publisher and promoter of Portfolio Penguin, building and nurturing it into one of the most successful business imprints in the UK in just two years.”
Other titles he has worked on this year include Midnight in Peking by Paul French and Argo by Antonio Mendez, as well as Quiet by Susan Cain and A Night to Remember by Walter Lord.
