Profile to publish Ox-Travels

Profile is to follow its Ox-Tales series published in aid of charity Oxfam with a collection of travel writing by stellar names titled Ox-Travels.

Colin Thubron, Paul Theroux, William Dalrymple, Dervla Murphy, Tim Butcher and Aminatta Forna are among the high-profile line-up contributing to the book, which carries an introduction from Michael Palin. Profile will publish Ox-Travels as a paperback on 26th May 2011 priced £8.99, and launch it at next year’s Hay Festival. All proceeds will go to Oxfam.

Mark Ellingham, who runs Profile’s green and ethical book imprint Green Profile, edited Ox-Travel, working with Hay Festival director Peter Florence and author Barnaby Rogerson.

Profile promised Ox-Travels would "transport readers into a brilliant, vivid atlas of encounters", from Rory Stewart’s portrait of an Afghan wrestler to Ruth Padel searching for tiger shamans in Sumatra. Ellingham said: "You have to go back to the 1980s and Granta’s all-time bestselling travel issue to find a book that compares to OxTravels.  This is a dream-team of travel writers, introducing young bloods along with the old masters, and their stories will stay with you for years to come." Florence called the pieces "adventures full of wonders conjured by the finest possible travelling companions."

Oxfam trading director David McCullough said: "After the great success of 2009’s Ox-Tales series, we are really excited to be working with Profile again on another wonderful book idea."

Ox-Tales titles have so far raised more than £110,000 for Oxfam.
