Telegram Books has acquired Bret Easton Ellis and the Other Dogs, the debut novel of Swedish author Lina Wolff.
Sarah Cleave, Telegram editorial assistant, bought world English rights from the Nordin Agency.
Cleave said: "Wolff is a master storyteller with an incredibly infectious voice. Her prose is imaginative and poetic and her humour is striking and dark."
The novel is set in Barcelona and weaves together different stories and testimonies about an eccentric Catalan author who only has a few months left to live. It was shortlisted for the Swedish Radio Award for Best Novel of the Year and won a literary award from Vi magazine.
Wolff has also had a short story collection, Many People Die Like You (Albert Bonniers Forlag) and one of her stories recently featured in Granta magazine.
Bret Easton Ellis and the Other Dogs will be published with the support of English PEN's Writers in Translation programme. The book is translated by award-winning translator Frank Perry and will be published by Telegram in September 2014.
