Penguin Random House (PRH) Children’s has bought the UK and Commonwealth rights to the debut YA novel by Emily Suvada.
This Mortal Coil is about a girl called Catarina Agatta, who is the daughter of a world-leading geneticist. In the midst of a devastating virus Agatta has to decrypt the vaccine her father created but must face up to the trust about her father’s work in the process.
Editor Tig Wallace struck a two-book deal with Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein and will publish in autumn 2017.
Wallace said: “This Mortal Coil is a bold, big-hearted blockbuster YA. It has the twists and turns of the very best thrillers, with insanely detailed world-building that fantasy fans will love. Emily has created a world in which our obsession with science and genetics is pushed to the limit, and at its centre is an unforgettable heroine who’s going to make readers sit up a little straighter in their chairs. I adore this book.”
Suvada was born in Australia but now lives in the US.
