Pottermore forms Sony gaming partnership

Pottermore has moved into social gaming through a partnership with Sony.

Pottermore at PlayStation Home, Sony's online gaming community for PlayStation 3, will launch in April, giving users the opportunity to explore some of the most well-known Harry Potter locations as an avatar.

The first locations to be launched via Pottermore at PlayStation Home will be Diagon Alley, where wizards stock up on magic supplies, and the Hogwarts Express, which transports students to and from the school.

Within these environments, users will be able to live experiences as an avatar, including answering questions in a Pottermore quiz; sharing and collecting Pottermore Trading Cards, and taking part in a Wizard's Duel.

Users will be able to purchase a companion from a choice of 14 owls, cats and toads, and shop for outfits from house robes to more casual wizard clothing. Access to the locations will be free.

There will also be the option for a user to link their Pottermore.com account with their PlayStation Network ID, unlocking additional interactive content and spaces.

Pottermore c.e.o. Charlie Redmayne said: "Pottermore reaches across multiple digital platforms, and Sony's partnership has allowed us to forge this exciting connection with PlayStation Home, creating the most immersive experience possible within that space and giving users wonderful new ways to explore locations from the Harry Potter stories.

"Following the successful launch of Wonderbook: Book of Spells [also with Sony], this is another example of the creative collaborations Pottermore is developing to bring the world of Harry Potter even more ingeniously to life."
