Pohlman appointed Open Road publisher

US digital publishing specialist Open Road Media has appointed Tina Pohlman, former Crown vice-president and publisher, to the role of publisher, as it plans to "continue to expand its programme".

Pohlman will lead Open Road's editorial department and the acquisition of new titles, as well as its expansion into new business areas. She will start on 5th March and report directly into c.e.o. and founder Jane Friedman.

Over the past month, the publisher has appointed several editorial roles, including Nita Taublib as strategic advisor for romance; Betsy Mitchell as strategic advisor for sci-fi and fantasy; and Marjorie Braman as consulting editorial director focusing on e-riginals and select backlist titles.

Friedman said: "Open Road has built a world-class editorial and acquisition team. Tina is an incredibly talented and accomplished publisher and editor whose entrepreneurial spirit is a perfect fit for the digital culture at Open Road. We are excited to have her be our publisher as we continue to expand our programme."

Pohlman said: "In this new landscape, Open Road's powerful marketing platform is leading the way in helping the rapidly expanding e-book audience discover great books . . . I am thrilled by this opportunity not only to help lead the development and growth of the company.”
