Restaurant chain Pizza Hut is partnering with marketing communications agency Mostra to launch a children's book club in the new year, with the participation of HarperCollins and W H Smith for the first slots. The club, aimed at children aged between three and 12 years, will launch in mid-January 2013, and will be called The Blooms Book Club, tying into Pizza Hut's fictional family characters, the Blooms.
Two HarperCollins books - Big Nate Flips Out by Lincoln Peirce, from a comic-strip series, and the latest in the Awesome Animals series, Koala Calamity by Jonathan Meres and Neal Layton - will be the launch titles for the club.
The titles will be highlighted in the restaurant's children's activity books and the Blooms section of the Pizza Hut website. WHS will offer a 50% discount on the titles in the club, with a voucher printed in the Blooms activity books. The club will also be promoted through the Pizza Hut email database and Facebook page, and children having birthday parties at the chain will receive a party bag with a sample chapter from one of the selected books. The child celebrating a birthday will receive a free copy of one of the books.
Mostra managing director David Adshead said: "We are very excited about this project, as The Blooms Book Club is a great way for publishers to bring books to an attractive, captive audience. The idea behind the Book Club is to develop a platform that promotes books and encourages reading to children."
Two new books will be promoted each quarter, with Adshead advising publishers to submit titles for the second quarter to Mostra in January.
