Picador wins Lottiery

Picador has won an 11-publisher tussle for a début by Lottie Moggach, daughter of novelist Deborah Moggach.

Editorial director Francesca Main paid six figures for UK and Commonwealth rights to Kiss Me First via Antony Topping at Greene & Heaton. Viking, Transworld, Little, Brown, Faber and Canongate were among the contenders.

The novel tells the story of Tess, who wants to commit suicide without her family knowing.

She meets Leila online, who agrees to adopt Tess’ identity to help convince her family that she is still alive and happy on the other side of the world. Main described the book as “really gripping, brilliant and clever”.

Picador will publish in summer 2013 with an “extensive” marketing campaign.
