Picador acquires Haruf's Benediction
01.11.12 | Charlie Meyrick
Picador has acquired the rights to Kent Haruf’s new novel Benediction. The novel completes a "loose trilogy" with Haruf’s previous two titles, Plainsong and Eventide.
Publisher Paul Baggaley acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Knopf’s Suzanne Smith.
Benediction is set in the fictional Colorado town of Holt and concerns strained family relationships between parents and children and the actions that people take to repair them. Baggaley said: “ The storytelling is always profoundly moving, but never sentimental.”
The two preceding novels will be reissued, alongside the publication of Benediction, in April 2013. Baggaley added: "I believe this trilogy will be seen as one of the great creations of recent American fiction."
