Penguin will this year publish books based on CiTV cartoon Matt Hatter Chronicles, as part of an extensive licensing programme that rolls out this autumn.
ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE), the UK agent for Platinum Films, has signed 17 UK licensing partners to produce books,annuals, toys and clothes, Penguin will two Matt Hatter books in August.
The first book in the Matt Hatter Chronicles series is titled The Black Knight and introduces Matt and his friends Roxie and Gomez as they battle villains from famous movies. The second book, Doctor Fossil, is about the team fighting Doctor Fossil, who plans to bring a demon beast back to life. Penguin will publish both books under the Ladybird imprint 7th August.
The Matt Hatter brand began life as a TV cartoon show in 2012 but the licensing programme is only being rolled out this year.
“We’ve taken a very considered approach to building the licensing programme, allowing the show time to establish a loyal fan base and ourselves space to form partnerships with the licensees,” said Trudi Hayward, senior vice president of global merchandising at ITVS GE.
Other licensing partners include Simba Dickie (toys), Smith and Brooks (clothes), Tactic Games (puzzles) and London Europe (stationery). The retail products will hit shops this autumn.
