Penguin Press has signed its first instructional books, called The Trainable Cat: How to Make your Cat Happy whilst Strengthening your Friendship.
Tom Penn at Penguin Press UK signed the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights with Patrick Walsh at Conville & Walsh.
The book will be written by Dr Sarah Ellis and Professor John Bradshaw, the animal scientists who appeared on BBC's Horizon special, "The Secret Life of Cats", where 50 cats were rigged with cameras to film their movements. The programme was watched by 5.9m people., with more programmes planned for next year.
Ellis is a feline scientist at the University of Lincoln, and Bradshaw is her former tutor at Bristol University, and an author of In Defence of Dogs and Cat Sense (both Penguin Press UK).
The book will contain more than 80 specially commissioned photographs, illustrating practical tips on how to train cats to adapt to the modern world.
Publication is planned for spring or summer 2015.
