Pan Mac buys supernatural Shearn
20.06.12 | Roger Tagholm
Pan Macmillan has bought a new novel from US writer Amy Shearn, described as: "'It’s a Wonderful Life' for the modern stressed-out woman."
Editorial director Jenny Geras bought UK and Commonwealth rights in The Mermaid of Brooklyn from Cecile Barendsma and PJ Mark at Janklow & Nesbit, calling it a "unique, magical and very funny take on a popular subject”.
The novel tells the story of a depressed mother of two who falls off the Brooklyn Bridge and discovers "a surprising aquatic ally and a supernatural way of dealing with her everyday problems".
Pan Mac will publish as an e-book first, in April 2013, to tie in with Simon & Schuster’s US publication, with a paperback to follow in August 2013.
