P D James to write Austen murder mystery

Faber is to publish a new detective novel from P D James which combines a murder investigation with the world and characters of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, revisiting Darcy and Elizabeth six years into their marriage.

Death Comes to Pemberley will be published on 3rd November as an £18.99 hardback.

The book is set in 1803, and the Darcys are happily settled with two sons, with Elizabeth's sister Jane and her husband Bingley living close by. However, on the night before the annual autumn ball, Elizabeth and Jane's youngest sister, Lydia Wickham, arrives uninvited, screaming that her husband has been murdered.

C.e.o. and publisher Stephen Page said: "It is always a moment of great excitement when P D James delivers a new novel but the brilliance of both the idea and the execution on this occasion is simply breathtaking. It's such an elegant, intelligent and moving book that is certain to delight an enormous readership."

James said: "It has been a joy to revisit Pride and Prejudice and to discover, as one always does, new delights and fresh insights. I have to apologise to Jane Austen for involving her beloved Elizabeth in a murder investigation but this fusion of my two enthusiasms—for the novels of Jane Austen and for writing detective stories—has given me great pleasure which I hope will be shared by my readers."

...is this a joke? PD James is writing 'Pride and Prejudice and Corpses'?

That sounds absolutely terrible, sorry.

Another novel P.D.James soon be translated into Spanish. We will have patience! -This is a Google translation, sorry.

Well, my question to P.D. James (as I have read her books) would be why would anyone care if Wickham were murdered or not? He caused enough trouble when he was alive by molesting two under-aged girls, adding his gambling debts to that shame, and lying whenever possible. No doubt, he finally pissed someone's brother or father off, or a loan-shark became impatient, and met his deserved end. I loathe that character ...

Anyone remember T.H.White's masterful locked room mystery from the 30's entitled "Darkness at Pemberley"?

If anyone can write an exciting detective mystery set in the early 1800, where none of the technology of today is available, and keep it as interesting as her others P.D. JAMES can. Congratulations on the book launch. I've been waiting a while for something definitely new from your pen. All the best,

Will this come out as an ebook (not kindle) ?
I cant find it anywhere
