Orion signs crime series from Bingham

23.02.11 | Graeme Neill

Orion has signed up a series of crime novels from author Harry Bingham, who
has previously written fiction and non-fiction for HarperCollins.

Deputy publishing director Bill Massey made the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights in three crime novels through Bill Hamilton at A M Heath. The series will feature character DC Fiona Griffiths, described as "a young woman with a shadowy father, a mysterious illness, and a peculiar empathy for the dead".

Massey said: "Harry Bingham has always been a tremendously compelling storyteller and now he's come up with a crime series with genuinely bestselling potential. Fiona Griffiths is the most original character I've come across in years and I think readers are going to be completely beguiled by her."

The first title, Talking to the Dead, will be published in spring 2012.

Can I just add how exceedingly chuffed I am. Of all the books I've written, this is the one that has grabbed hold of me most completely and I'm delighted that it's ended up in such excellent hands. I'm working on Bill M's excellent editorial notes now ...
