Hachette UK publisher Orion is launching a 'lifestyle' website to feature its women's fiction, which will include give-away chapters, as well as blogs by both authors and editors.
Tentatively called 'The Looking Glass', the new website will go live in April. It will use photos from Orion's glossy catalogue, which was styled to look like a high-end woman's magazine and sent out with copies of the Bookseller last week.
A further 5,000 copies of the catalogue will be circulated among booksellers to distribute among consumers.
The website will be flagged on Orion's homepage and will showcase a different selection of books each month.
Mark Rusher, trade marketing director, said: "We are talking in terms of making the website more like the catalogue, so it has the feel of reading a glossy woman's lifestyle magazine.
"That is something women are clearly comfortable with, and rather than something dry and text-driven, we want to create something more entertaining online."
He added: "We want to have more author blogs, and editors talking about forthcoming books, with chapter give-aways and possibly even giving away a whole book."
The Gollancz website is being developed in a similar vein, Rusher said, with editors writing a regular newsletter to readers.
The publisher will also be advertising forthcoming titles on the back of every Gollancz book from April.
Orion's women's fiction website will be complemented with a swathe of author events across the country.
