Orion buys book by toddler
05.10.12 | Charlotte Williams
Orion has pre-empted a guide to successful parenting written from the point of view of an anonymous toddler.
Publishing director Kate Mills snapped up UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in the title, The Honest Toddler, from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein, operating on behalf of Rachel Sussman at Chalbery & Sussman. Sussman has sold US and Canadian rights at auction to Scribner and HarperCollins Canada respectively.
The title gives advice to parents "struggling to come to terms with the fact that their angelic baby has morphed into a mini despot". Orion will publish in 2013.
Mills said: "Once in a while a voice captures a generation—Bridget Jones, Adrian Mole—now The Honest Toddler speaks for under-threes everywhere. These snapshots of toddler hell will resonate with every parent who’s ever tried to hide a bruise on an apple from their child.
"I’m delighted Orion will be publishing this wickedly funny anti-dote to Tiger Mothers and Toddler Tamers. Parents deserve to be better armed in the war against their offspring. This is also the first time I’ve included a specific quantity and colour of gummy bears in an offer."
