Orbit Short Fiction to hit UK

Orbit is launching its digital short fiction publishing programme internationally, expanding from its US base.

Orbit Short Fiction, which launched in the US in April, will release titles simultaneously in the US, UK and all other markets in which its e-books are regularly distributed from the start of 2012.

Editorial director Anne Clarke said: "The digital short fiction market is clearly gaining momentum, and I'm delighted that we'll now be able to make our authors' stories available internationally. The success of the programme in the US has been very encouraging, and we're very much looking forward to working with our authors and colleagues in the US on this next stage in its development."

She added that titles already available in the US will be available in the UK from early 2012, including works by Brent Weeks, Mira Grant and James S A Corey. Clarke said it was difficult to predict how many titles would be published a year, as it depended on how many Orbit authors wanted to write short fiction and join the programme. The prices will vary between 99p and £3.99, although these are yet to be confirmed.

Tim Holman, Orbit v.p. and publisher for the US and UK, said: "From the outset we hoped to expand the Orbit Short Fiction initiative, and we feel that now is the time to do it. Stories will be available far more widely, and through all major e-book retailers, which is good for our authors, for fans and for the publishing programme."
