Illustrator Oliver Jeffers is marking his 10th anniversary of creating picture books by coming to London to take part in several live events, including an "in conversation" evening with Sir Quentin Blake.
On 1st-2nd November, Jeffers will take part in several events at the Southbank Centre in London and will talk to Blake about the creative process in an event for fans aged 10+. For younger children, he will host an event about how to create picture books, and lead a "sketch-off" session, where he will invite guest illustrators to join him to do some drawing.
There is also a screening of an animated film of Jeffers’ Lost and Found (HarperCollins Children's Books), produced by Studio AKA, and a puppet show of The Way Back Home (also HCB) by Northern Irish theatre company Branar.
The Discover Children’s Story Centre in East London is also celebrating Oliver Jeffers this autumn with a year-longexhibition entitled ‘The Wonderful World of Oliver Jeffers’. It will launch 27th September and will feature immersive exhibits based on the HCB books How to Catch a Star, Up and Down, Lost and Found and The Way Back Home.
“This is a unique representation of Oliver’s work where children will be able to physically explore some of their favourite scenes,” said Discover’s joint chief executive Sally Goldsworthy. “Oliver’s books are inspiring, moving and heartening and brilliantly capture the themes of loneliness and friendship in their pages.”
Jeffers, who grew up in Northern Ireland but is now based in the US, is one of the biggest picture book authors in the UK, with sales of his books totalling £314,019, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Jeffers’ next book, Once Upon An Alphabet, will be published by HarperCollins Children’s Books on 25th September.
