After a “spirited and hotly contested” auction, Octopus Publishing has landed the first book for rising cookery star Olia Hercules.
Publishing director Stephanie Jackson bought world rights in the “truly unexpected and groundbreaking” Mamushka from Ariella Feiner at United Agents.
Born and raised in the Ukraine, Hercules has also lived in Cyprus before moving to London to train as a chef at Leith’s School of Food and Wine, after which she worked at Ottolenghi. She has also written widely on food, including for the Guardian, and co-founded the online startup The Recipe Kit.
Mamushka, which will be published in June 2015, will feature recipes from the “wild East”, Hercules’ native Ukraine, and the surrounding region.
