Obama to provide foreword for Mandela book
11.06.10 | Catherine Neilan
US president Barack Obama is to provide the foreword to Nelson Mandela's Conversations with Myself, being published in the UK this October by Pan Macmillan.
The book, which caused a stir at last year's Frankfurt Book Fair, draws on Mandela's personal archive of never-before-seen materials to offer unique access to the private world of an incomparable world leader.
It will include journals kept on the run during the anti-apartheid struggle of the early 1960s, diaries and draft letters written in Robben Island and other South African prisons during his 27 years of incarceration, as well as notebooks from the post-apartheid transition, private recorded conversations, speeches and correspondence written during his presidency.
The book is based on a selection of documents archived at the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
