NUJ votes for Lexis Nexis strike action

National Union of Journalist members at Lexis Nexis has voted for strike action against what it sees as a "paltry pay rise".
The members are planning to strike on 19th, 25th and 26th August in protest against a 2.2% pay offer.
Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary said: “Our members are sending a clear message to management at Lexis Nexis – get back round the table and negotiate a sensible, fair pay deal. After several years of paltry pay rises, members are determined to get a rise that truly reflects their loyalty, commitment and sheer hard work. Chapel members are to be congratulated on their strong stance.”
Laurie Hibbs, Lexis Nexis HR director, said: "We have always been, and remain, committed to reaching an amicable agreement with the NUJ without the need to resort to industrial action and our conversations with them are ongoing."

Well done LN staff and the NUJ. Within Reed Elsevier there has been a complete lack of any fair pay awards over the last 4 years, even though the company is still making huge profits. Unfortunately, with RE management complete lack of acknowledgement of unions, I don't think it will make much difference, but if it does I hope it filters across the other arms of RE as well.
What some companies forget is that many members of their staff have shares in the company, see the company's results, and know details of dividend payments and executive remuneration.
Everyone understands times are hard, but when management gave increases that were significantly below inflation even when they were exceeding targets in the good years, when people see colleagues being treated badly, when staff numbers have been cut and workloads have increased because of redundancies and when they see money being spent on fancy jollies etc, their loyalty and goodwill begin to dwindle.
