Norman makes first buy for Hutchinson
25.05.12 | Katie Allen
Hutchinson senior editor Sarah Norman has made her first acquisition since joining the Cornerstone imprint, snapping up UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in The Kept by James Scott.
Norman signed the deal with Stephanie Koven at Janklow & Nesbit Associates in New York, with publication date to be confirmed.
The book opens in the winter of 1897, when Elspeth Howell returns to her isolated farm to find only her son Caleb still alive, with the rest of her family brutally killed. However, Caleb mistakes Elspeth for the killers returning, and shoots her in the chest. The pair set out together to find the murderers, with Caleb eventually discovering his mother has a terrible secret.
Norman said: "A novel with big skies, deep snow, and open wounds, the ambition and sheer brilliance of The Kept had me totally enthralled. I am thrilled that such an amazing novel has crossed my desk so soon after joining the team at Hutchinson."
