Niffenegger to write short story for Solaris

Author of The Time Traveller’s Wife Audrey Niffenegger is to write a short story for Rebellion imprint Solaris, the first time she has been published in a commercial trade anthology.

"The Wrong Fairie" will be included in Magic, a short story collection about the “occult and arcane”. Solaris signed worldwide English language rights including translation to the book through Markus Hoffman at Regal Literary. The collection is due to be released in paperback and e-book for both North America and the UK in November 2012.

Niffenegger said the story is about Charles Altamont Doyle, "a Victorian artist who was institutionalised for alcoholism. He was also the father of Arthur Conan Doyle, and he believed in fairies.”

Editor-in-chief Jonathan Oliver said: "It's really very exciting to be working with Audrey, whose novels The Time Traveller's Wife and Her Fearful Symmetry show an author with a great talent for subverting genre norms and delivering the unexpected."

Other authors to appear in the book include Richard and Judy pick Alison Littlewood, Dan Abnett and Storm Constantine.
