New deal for Flynn with Cornerstone

Century and Arrow have signed a new four-book deal with bestselling saga author Katie Flynn.

Publisher Gillian Holmes bought UK and Commonwealth rights, with exclusive Europe and Canada, in the titles through Caroline Sheldon at the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency.

Cornerstone plans to publish two books a year, one in the summer and one at Christmas, for the next two years, with the first book in the contract, as yet untitled, to be published in hardback in August 2012 and released in paperback in the following November.

Holmes said: "I am so happy that we have a new deal with Katie. She is such a marvellous author whose dedication, hard work and wonderfully poignant stories make her a joy to work with.

"Flynn's been writing so long in this market, she has built up a really loyal following, through the strength of her writing, really. Her sales have grown steadily, and she is so focused—always set in Liverpool or Wales, usually war-time."

She added: "Saga is such a successful genre for us, and it would seem in the past few years, with the decline of misery, those readers have moved over to saga, or nostalgia as it is also called.

"What distinguishes saga from so many other genres is that they go on and on—her backlist is not dead, the readers are incredibly loyal. We always talk about our ‘saga-tail', which just keeps going and going—they take other titles out of the supermarkets but they never take saga out because it just keeps on selling."

Flynn lives in the north-west of England, and also writes as Judith Saxton. Her 32nd book, Christmas Wishes, was published this year and was a top 10 paperback bestseller.
