The finalists for the Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust Book of the Year Awards have been announced, with four writers in the running for the £30,000 prize.
Each finalist has won their category to enter the finalists, with each receiving £5,000.
Ewan Morrison has won the fiction category for his novel, Close Your Eyes (Jonathan Cape). Gavin Francis won the non-fiction category with Empire Antarctica (Chatto & Windus). Richard Price won the poetry category with his collection, Small World (Carcanet), while Kate Hudson has won the first book category with Tony Hogan Bought Me an Ice Cream Float Before he Stole my Ma (Chatto & Windus).
One book will now be chosen as the overall winner, receiving a further £25,000, making the award Scotland's largest literary prize.
The final winner will be chosen following an online public vote, and announced at the Lennoxlove Book Festival on 2nd November.
The judges for this year's awards were Peggy Hughes, programme director of the Dundee Literary Festival, radio presenter Clare English, David McCormack of Waterstones, books editor of The List Kirsty Logan, and Aly Barr, development officer at Creative Scotland, which partners with awards sponsor Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust.
