Morpurgo, Young and Scarrow to join first HWA festival
04.05.11 | Katie Allen
Michael Morpurgo, Robyn Young and Simon Scarrow are to take part in the inaugural Festival of Historical Writing, launched by the Historical Writers' Association.
As reported in March, Transworld novelist M C Scott formed the association as a forum for writers and to promote the genre.
The new festival is partnering with English Heritage, and will occur as part of the Festival of History at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire, from 16th-17th July. The festival will be free, as part of the ticket price to the Kelmarsh event.
Events lined up include "Myths in History", discussed by Robyn Young, Angus Donald, Imogen Robertson and Tom Harper; "Romans vs Vikings" with Simon Scarrow and Robert Low; and Scott and Anthony Riches debating "The Romans—What Did They do For Us?". Michelle Paver will also host a solo event, while former children's laureate Michael Morpurgo will discuss novel, play and forthcoming film, War Horse.
As well as debates, the festival will also including a signing tent and a "hospitality tent" for readers to meet authors.
