More Atwood titles in e-book for Vintage and Virago

Vintage is publishing five backlist titles by Margaret Atwood in e-book format for the first time, including The Handmaid's Tale, with Virago Press also acquiring three other Atwood titles in e-book format.

Vintage Publishing managing director Richard Cable acquired the e-books rights from Vivienne Schuster at Curtis Brown in the five titles for Random House, with The Handmaid's Tale, Bodily Harm and Life Before Man, as well as short story collections Dancing Girls and Bluebeard's Egg, to be available in e-book across all formats from 17th May. All five were originally published by Jonathan Cape between 1977 and 1985.

Cable said: "As the publisher of a number of Margaret Atwood's works, including her seminal The Handmaid's Tale, we are delighted to now be able to make them available to a new generation of readers who wish to read them as e-books."

Meanwhile, Virago has acquired The Edible Woman, Surfacing and Lady Oracle to publish for the first time in e-book format. These will also be published in 2012, on a date to be confirmed, joining 14 other Atwood titles which are already available as Virago e-books.
