The Canadian publisher who is bringing out a Michael Jackson biography within the next few days pleaded guilty to charges of fraud last year, the Canadian book trade paper Quill & Quire has revealed.
Montreal-based Pierre Turgeon was sued for more than $600,000 (£315,000) by his former partner Julien Beliveau and ordered to pay a $5,000 (£2,626) fine and do "several hours of community service" - teaching the value of reading to school children - after his previous venture Trait d'union went bankrupt in 2005.
Creditors were "left in the lurch for at least $1.7m", the Canadian magazine said. Believeau is "yet to see a penny" from his lawsuit.
Michael Jackson: Return from Exile had been submitted to the printer a day before the star died. It has since been renamed Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson, and is being released under Tugeon's new company Transit Publishing within days. Transit Publishing said it was planning to set up a distribution agreement in the UK.
