Monster series to HarperCollins Childrens Books
01.01.70 | Benedicte Page
HarperCollins Children's Books has acquired an illustrated young fiction series, Monster and Chips, by author-illustrator David O'Connell.
Harriet Wilson bought world rights in a deal with Jodie Marsh at United Agents.
The series features eight-year-old Joe who gets a job at a monster diner, learning how to make zombie cupcakes and exploding milkshakes, while trying not to stare at the scary customers. The first book will be published in February 2013, with the second to follow in July and the third in February 2014.
Wilson said: "David O'Connell is an extraordinarily talented author and illustrator and I'm thrilled to have beaten off fierce competition to sign him up (and his fierce monsters). David has a background in comic books and has employed these skills to cook-up a mouth-watering mix of cartoon strips, revolting recipes and amazing monsters in a playful package which stands out from the crowd.
"This series sets a new bar for 5-8 fiction."
